This week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge offers a unique sketch that will likely require a little creativity – and a lot of fun! The sketch is a “retro challenge” – a throwback to a sketch from years past. This one (by Chrissy Larson) takes us back to CTS#134 from July 2015. Here’s my card for this week’s challenge:
And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:
- Gather Together. I love trees, but I really, really love leaves. My two favorite seasons are the “transition seasons” – Fall and Spring. That’s when the trees either fill up with leaves or start to shed them. I was so happy when Stampin’ Up! included the favorite Gather Together bundle in its August – December 2020 Mini Catalog. What’s more – they are still offering it as a bundle. If you love Thanksgiving or leaves or pumpkins (or all three), then this bundle is a must-have. Here’s a look at the images and shapes in the Gather Together Bundle, which includes the Gather Together stamp set and coordinating Layering Leaves Dies:
The sentiment on my card is from the To a Wild Rose stamp set – a perfect, little accent on the card that says everything it needs to say. - Building the Layers. My card features three layers of leaves – each layer different from the next. I had a lot of fun recreating this sketch with these gorgeous leaves. Here’s a closer look:
Here’s how I built these layers:- I stamped the leaf three times with Soft Suede ink on the Very Vanilla cardstock base to create the background for my other leaves.
- I tapped the splatter stamp into Sahara Sand ink, lightly tapped it on scrap paper before stamping it along the edges of the Soft Suede leaves.
- I stamped the same leaf twice with Crushed Curry on Very Vanilla and cropped them with the Layering Leaves Dies. I added those two leaves over the three Soft Suede Leaves.
- I stamped the leaf one last time with Soft Suede ink on Terracotta Tile cardstock and cropped it again. I popped it up on the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
- Fall Tones. It’s about time for the yellows and oranges of Fall to find their way into our trees – I love everything about Autumn. Such a gorgeous mix of colors, don’t you think? If you like this mix of Crushed Curry, Terracotta Tile and Soft Suede, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:

Bundles: Gather Together Stamp Sets: Gather Together, To a Wild Rose Papers: Crumb Cake, Terracotta Tile, Very Vanilla Inks: Soft Suede, Crushed Curry, Sahara Sand, Tuxedo Black Memento Accessories: Layering Leaves Dies, Tailored Tag Punch (banner tip), Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the CAS(E) This Sketch site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!
