Grateful for You

There’s something very special about a simple card with all the right elements. Like you, I often times feel like I need to add something else to a card – does it need an embellishment or ribbon? And like you, I often times take a card apart and start over to get exactly what I want. Today’s card is very, very simple, but it gives me everything I need in a card – a beautiful pattern, gorgeous colors and a little texture. Here’s my card:

Beautiful Autumn, Stampin Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Retiring Products. My simple card features two products that are soon to be retired (if they haven’t already sold out. The red berries are from the Poinsettia Place Designer Series Paper, and the sentiment is from Beautiful Autumn. I couldn’t let this page of red berries go to retirement without showcasing them on a card – that wouldn’t be right. Here’s a look at all of the patterns and colors in the Poinsettia Place Designer Series Paper:Poinsettia Place Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up! 153487These papers are marked 30% off while supplies last. The sentiment from Beautiful Autumn is designed for a Fall-themed card, it’s also perfect for a thank you during other times of the year. How perfect would this be for a gift received at Christmas? Here’s a look at the retiring Beautiful Autumn Bundle: Beautiful Autumn Bundle, Stampin Up! 155189If you don’t have this bundle, you’ll want it before it’s gone. QUICK TIP: because the punches are currently marked 20% off, you are better off to buy the two items separately (Beautiful Autumn stamp set #153450 and Autumn Punch Pack #153609).
  • A Little Texture. The stitching around the sentiment (how can you not love the Stitched Shapes Dies?) is subtle and quite perfect. To add a little more texture to the card, albeit subtle, I used my Paper Trimmer to add three score lines to the Real Red band behind the sentiments. Beautiful Autumn, Stampin Up!, Brian KingThat’s an old technique that adds something really charming and tailored to a card. Love it!
  • Color Combination. I love how colors change their personalities when paired with other colors. Real Red can be bold and bright when paired with bold, bright colors, but I love how warm it is with warm colors. This combination of Real Red, Crumb Cake and Soft Suede is a go-to favorite of mine. I love it so! If you like this mix of colors as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this: Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration: Real Red, Crumb Cake, Soft Suede

  1. Lovely paper and the perfect, crisp sentiment.

Brian, your card is striking … the red and browns are just so great together with the sentiment on the large WW circle. That “pops”! ? Thank you!

    • Thanks so much, Suzie! I sometimes think I use these circles too much, but I like them every time. I love this sentiment and was happy to have it for this card. Always wonderful to hear from you!

  3. Love, love, love this card. Sometimes simple is best!

  4. Your card is perfectly done my friend.

    • Thanks so much, Kadie! Even as I was proud of how simple it was (yet just what I wanted), I still thought I might need to add something else. Glad you like it. ♥

  5. You are a master at putting the right elements together to make a great card!

  6. The score lines do add great texture. Such a perfect card for this time of year…we’ve been out in the meadow searching for those red berries for an arrangement with greens!

    • Ooooh! I would love to see your wreath when you are done, Dawn! That sounds fun – although I’m certain your meadow search was a bit colder than my shorts-and-t-shirt attire would allow. ♥

  7. I saw the texture on the red band and wondered what embossing folder you had used. Then I read how you cleverly scored it to add texture. Yes, it all makes a perfect card with a sweet sentiment. Enjoy your day!

    • Thanks so much, Hilda! This is one of the first techniques I learned for adding a little texture to a card. I still love it as much as the first day I played around with it. Hope you have a wonderful day!

  8. Your card today is so beautiful with its rich color and lovely DSP. I sometimes wish I could get a whole package of certain DSP patterns. The one you used today would certainly be a candidate.

    • Thanks, Sharon! I’m right there with you – I LOVE this pattern and often times fall in love with one or two papers in each pack. That said, I generally love playing with all the papers, but there’s always a standout pattern or two that makes me very happy. ♥

  9. Well here I was reading along and falling in love with your card and especially the saying…………then I realized I have the Beautiful Autumn set and smacked myself in the head for never using the saying. Sometimes I really need you to wake me up Brian. Absolutely love todays card.

    • Please don’t smack yourself, Grace! 🙂 I have to admit that I thought the sentiment looked so different in Real Red. Thanks so much for your comments – so glad you like the card. ♥

  10. The words on the perfectly stamped sentiment are beautiful, they will go perfectly on cards for any occasion or for anybody in your life who you are grateful for.
The paper is beautiful too, the rich red of the berries and the accent strip against the browns are a fabulous combination.
    Thank you for sharing.
    Stay healthy and safe.
    XO
