Celebrate You with Hey Birthday Chick

Before I share today’s project for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge, I want to thank Amy O’Neill who selected my All About Baby card from last week’s challenge as her choice for “Perfect Prince” (if you missed that card, you can see it here).  I receive so much inspiration from these online challenges, so it’s always special to be recognized by the design team members.  Thanks, Amy!

For this week’s slimline card challenge, I pulled out a favorite from the January – June 2021 Mini Catalog and combined it with some new products from Stampin’ Up!’s 2021 Annual Catalog. Such fun!  Here’s my slimline card:

FMS487I love to mix things up with a non-traditional card shape every once in a while. I love the look of a long, slender card, so this challenge gave me license to play. The base of my slimline card measures 8-1/2″ x 7″ and is scored at 3-1/2″.

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Hey Birthday Chick Bundle. The Hey Birthday Chick stamp set debuted in Stampin’ Up!’s January – June 2021 Mini Catalog – a coordinating set of dies quickly followed. Together, they are incredibly fun. While both the Hey Birthday Chick stamp set and coordinating Birthday Chick Dies will be carrying forward into Stampin’ Up!’s 2021 Annual Catalog, the bundle (which gives us a 10% discount on both) will disappear on June 30. Here’s a look at the Hey Birthday Chick Bundle:Hey Birthday Chick Bundle, Stampin Up!, 158631The Hey Chick Bundle was released at the same time as the Hey Birthday Chick Bundle. The Hey Chick Bundle will retire on June 30 (or when supplies run out). If you love crazy chicks, you’ll want to check that one out, too! CLICK HERE to take a look. • Just Sitting Around. On February 1, I made a card with several of the characters in the Hey Chick Bundle and Hey Birthday Chick Bundle. The card featured a couple of peek-a-boo frames with some peeping chickens. Here’s a look at this card (you can click on the image to see the original post for this project):Hey Chick Bundle, Hey Birthday Chick Bundle, Stampin Up!, Brian KingAt the time, I colored this dancing chicken with Calypso Coral Stampin’ Blends but decided to switch up the colors. The chicken in the bottom frame won out in the color war, and I made another of this character with Crumb Cake. Even though this Calypso Coral chicken didn’t make it onto that card, she’s been bouncing around the basement since February 1, waiting for the right project. On a couple of occasions, I added a little more ink and then blended it a bit with the Color Lifter. Finally…the chick has found a home. • CC Color Trio. The warm tones on my slimline card start with a Cajun Craze panel from the In the Wild Designer Series Paper. I love the tribal pattern in the 7-1/2″ x 2-1/2″ panel on the front of this card. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the In the Wild Designer Series Paper:In the Wild Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up!, 155817The Calypso Coral chicken looks great against the Cajun Craze backdrop. The base of Crumb Cake helps to keep these tones warm. If you like this mix of Crumb Cake, Calypso Coral and Cajun Craze as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:Stampin Up! Oh my goodness, Brian, these chicks are so adorable and fun, love the chubby one on your slimline card, with the perfect layers of card stock and DSP.
Your other card with those other chickies is just as fun, you really can’t go wrong with these adorable birds.
