Overstamping with Delicate Dahlias

Stampin’ Up!’s August-September Sale-a-Bration is wrapping up next week, so I’m offering up a lot of Sale-a-Bration projects this week. Today I’m sharing one of the Level 2 Items that can be selected with a $100 order (before shipping and taxes) – the Delicate Dahlias photopolymer stamp set. Here’s my card:

Both the flower image and wonderful sentiment I used on my card are pulled from the Delicate Dahlias stamp set. Here’s a look at this wonderful Sale-a-Bration stamp set:

Delicate Dahlias, Stampin Up!, 156601Each of the shapes in this gorgeous set features one stamp to create an outline and one stamp to fill in the image with color. Because the set is photopolymer (you can see right through it), it’s easy to line up the images over each other. I love that, too.

I used the set it two ways it wasn’t necessarily designed for:

  • I created a background pattern on my card by overstamping the image.
  • I stamped the flower and cut it out with Paper Snips.

I’m going to give you a closer look at both of these designs on my card.

Overstamping

“Overstamping” is the term I’ve given the technique of stamping an image over and over until the image is unrecognizable on the card. I inked up my big flower with Pale Papaya, stamped it on Basic White and repeated until I had the pattern I wanted. While I could have mixed in different colors or changed the intensity of color by stamping more in one area, I decided to stamp uniformly across the paper. Here’s a closer look at that pattern on my card:

Cutting Out the Flower

The set does not come with dies, so I stamped this flower on Thick Basic White with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and snipped it out with my Paper Snips. It felt a little tedious at first, but it was fun after I started making a little progress around the flower.

With dies, we are accustomed to a little white border around our shapes – I didn’t dare try to recreate that white border when I snipped. I just went in and did the best I could. I was happy with how it turned out. I added a touch of color to the center of each petal with my Light Pale Papaya Stampin’ Blend – just enough to add a touch of color. Here’s a closer look:
