Jeremiah’s birthday was this past week (he’s an April Fools baby), and I made a simple (but fun!) card to honor his special day. I will be the first to suggest that we should not be shy to add color to masculine cards. While the card base and three of the layers are built with black-and-white Designer Series Papers, there’s a celebratory pop of color on this card that adds a little fun to the card. Here’s the birthday card I made for Jeremiah:
It has the appeal of a 1980’s photo from the mall, don’t you think? That’s what I saw when I pulled these three black-and-white papers together. Fun, right? Unless you already know where these pages can be found, you’d be surprised to learn they are featured in a floral-themed pack of papers. These black-and-white patterns are supporting players in the gorgeous pages of the Lovely Garden Designer Series Paper, new in March’s Online Exclusives launch. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the Lovely Garden Designer Series Paper:
The balloons are stamped with the Spring Corners stamp set and and cropped with the coordinating dies. Here’s a look at the Spring Corners Bundle, added to the Online Exclusives earlier this year:
I roughed up the edges and sides of the two panels I added to the striped design. I only added glue to the centers of the panels to allow them to pop off the page a bit.
I colored the balloons with Stampin’ Blends in a trio of bright colors – Lemon Lime Twist, Azure Afternoon and Poppy Parade. Before adding the sentiment, balloons and embellishments, I flicked my Lemon Lime Twist and Azure Afternoon blends over the white paper to add a little color to the white pages. I didn’t flick the Poppy Parade ink on the paper because my viewership of true crime shows tells me red doesn’t splatter without looking suspicious. Here’s a closer look:
If you love the mix of bright colors here – Lemon Lime Twist, Azure Afternoon and Poppy Parade – as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:
I was very happy when Jeremiah referenced the “1980’s photo shoot” he saw when he opened his card. I knew it was there, but I was happy to hear that he saw it, too, without even being prompted. Challenge complete!
