Brian’s Week in Review: July 20, 2025

Brian's Week in ReviewWelcome to my Week in Review. Today I want to give you a quick rundown of the week (for those who don’t follow me every day) with a little extra background (for those who already tune in daily).

I’m getting a lot done around the house – I’ve organized kitchen cabinets and cleaned off the laundry room shelves. I’m finding the right place for everything in the Fungeon, too. There’s still so much to do, but I’m getting there!

I have some “extras” for the projects I shared this week. Let’s jump into the week…

Monday

On Monday I shared the first of two projects I made with the Peaceful View stamp set and Full of Life 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper. My card focuses on the paper and the stamp to create a perfect story. Here’s that card:

Peaceful View, Beautiful Motifs, Full of Life Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingBonus! The sweet sentiment on my card (from the Beautiful Motifs stamp set) is accented with a single band of ribbon that’s folded behind the circle. There’s no way I would be able to just glue that ribbon to the card front (I don’t have that skill), so I figured out a way to get that folded ribbon on my card. Here’s how I did that:

  • I started with a strip of paper that would fit behind the sentiment circle.
  • I covered the strip with Stampin’ Seal +.
  • I positioned the ribbon on the strip and taped it down with the lengths needed.
  • I glued the ribbon-emblazoned strip to the card front and then added the sentiment.

I used the same technique for the ribbon on the card I shared on Friday…

Tuesday

How could I play with the Peaceful View stamp set and Full of Life 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper without making variations?! On Tuesday, I showcased a second card I made with these products:

Peaceful View, Simply Said, Impressions Abloom Dies, Full of Life Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingI could have showcased this gorgeous panel like Monday’s card, but I spotlighted the center of the image by cropping it with the large oval from the Impressions Abloom Dies. I love those ovals!

Wednesday

I’ve been excited to play with the Sunflower 3D Embossing Folder – it’s gorgeous! While it was on my A-list from the Online Exclusives, it didn’t make it to my shopping cart right away. Here’s a card I made with this incredible embossing folder to share with you on Wednesday:

Sunflower 3D Embossing Folder, Sentimental Framing, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingBonus. I inked up the embossing folder with Pecan Pie ink and then colored the flowers and leaves with Stampin’ Blends. On Wednesday, I shared a closer look at the inked up image before I added the sentiment. What I didn’t show you, though, is that the other side of that panel looks great (which I didn’t share with you in Wednesday’s post):

Sunflower 3D Embossing Folder, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingIt has a softness that the other side doesn’t have. I’m going to play with this and come up with something new next week. 🙂

Thursday

I’ve used the Full of Life 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper A LOT since it was released in last year’s Annual Catalog. I was so happy to see it carried over this year. Because I used it for TWO projects this week, I thought it would be a good time to look back at my other projects with these papers (I showed you seven) and offer some great color combinations, using the brilliant colors in this pack as a starting point.

Here’s my favorite color combination with three colors from this pack of papers (such a great mix of soft, bright and rich colors):

Friday

I always make sure I like the projects I make to share with you – almost always. I have to admit that I was particularly happy with the card I made on Friday. The pieces of this card were in-process for more than a week, and I’m thrilled with how they came together. Here’s a look at Friday’s card:

Beautiful Gallery Designer Series Paper, spotlight technique,, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingIt all started with the “spotlight technique” I used to color the punched circle and then place it back in the uncolored panel. The combination of sentiments, the folded ribbon, and the background panel made it all come together for me. It also makes me SO HAPPY for the new Cloud Cover In Color.

Saturday

Yesterday I shared another card that came together from pieces that have been “sitting around” for more than a week or two. The combinations of patterned papers on this card have been on the corner of the desk since the end of June. Here’s the card I share yesterday:

Label Me Grateful, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, thank you card with purple layersDid you see that I tied a bow?! I was going to fold it behind the sentiment until I realized I had done that twice this week, so I tied a bow with this shiny ribbon. It wasn’t what I wanted, but it was exactly what I needed.

I’m so happy to share these projects and ideas with you. I’ll have more to share next week – I hope you’ll come back every day to see what I’m sharing. ♥

Thanks for stopping by today!

  1. Hi Brian
As always I enjoy and look forward to your week in review post!
I’m going to try the “Spotlight “ technique on the DSP card from Friday!
It’s so nice to have the time , now that you are retired, to organize . What a rewarding accomplishment!

    • Thank you so much, Dawn! I’m so happy you like that technique – it’s really, really fun. I feel a lot of pressure to get it done fast, but I have no timeline that requires me to get it done right now. You are so kind!

  2. This was an especially good week in the Fungeon, wan’t it? ( at least that is my perspective) I liked Friday’s card so much I ordered a Cloud Cover Blendie (and the newly-back-in-stock Floral Charm, lol)
Your great hack for ribbon attachment was a gem, too. You’re positively the Ribbon Master now! TFS!!

    • 😀 Thank you so much, Cindie! I had fun with that card – and I was happy with that ribbon hack. You might be seeing more ribbon from me…
