Remembering Christmas Again

Today, I am sharing another project from my display board at Convention, and it’s another sneak peek at Remembering Christmas, a stamp set from the Holiday Catalog – available for purchase TOMORROW. Here’s the backstory – when Shannon West contacted me to be a presenter and told me that I’d be focusing on masculine cards, she sent me a photo of this set (that was before the catalog was released to demonstrators – shhh don’t tell anyone). At first, I said, “no thank you” because I couldn’t see the beauty of this set – to me, it just looked like a mounted deer head. That’s when the “I really like a challenge” side of me set in, and I said “yes” to the set. The challenge was then to make projects I liked with the set. Here’s one:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders:

• Kissy, Kissy. It’s a technique that’s as old as stamping, but the effect is GREAT! I inked up my dear deer with a light shade of ink (Pool Party). I then inked up my Woodgrain background stamp with a dark shade of ink (Midnight Muse) and pressed the woodgrain stamp onto the deer head. When I pulled the two stamps apart, I stamped the deer head onto Whisper White Cardstock. The woodgrain image appears on the deer but only on the shape of the deer. It’s really pretty cool. • Playing with Framelits. I really love to find new ways to use framelits to build new shapes and outlines for my projects. To create a unique band for this card, I cut a white strip of paper and then ran it through the center of the Deco Label Framelits. Rather than have one continuous band behind the Deco Label cutout, I allowed the band to break and maintain the shapes of the edges of the label. It allows the shape of the label to shine.
• Puzzling. Have you tried the new technique called puzzling? It’s all the rage in Europe these day. OK, so I made that up. I also made up this technique, but it has worked well for me before. After I stamped the deer head, I cropped it with a circle from the Circles Collection Framelits, allowing the antlers to be trimmed right of his head. I then snipped around the antlers that were removed from the circle, added some glue and then slid them right back into place. They fit like a puzzle. I created this technique when I was playing around with Pleasant Poppies earlier this year (to see that post, click here).
