A Simple Invitation and a Blog Candy Giveaway

Today I’m sharing a super-simple project with a new favorite from Stampin’ Up!’s 2015-2016 Annual Catalog and a retired favorite from Stampin’ Up!’s 2014-2015 Annual Catalog.  If you’d like to review my Top Favorites from the new catalog, click here.  To celebrate the combination of the two, I’m also offering a Blog Candy Giveaway that I think you’ll love – so please stick around after the project.

Here’s my card:

All About Sugar, Regarding Dahlias (retired), Stampin' Up!, Brian KingTips, Tricks and Reminders

  • All About Sugar.  Perhaps the sweetest addition to the 2015-2016 Annual Catalog is All About Sugar.  While this set can be used for all sorts of parties and fun-themed events, I wanted to formalize it a little bit and make a simple invitation on a Whisper White Note Card.  So I did it.  Look how fancy this set of fork, knife and spoon look when stamped in Smoky Slate! All About Sugar
  • Simple Layering.  The face of this note card is already smaller than a standard card front (note cards measure 5″ x 3-1/2″ and come with a coordinating envelope.  At $6 for 20, these packs are a steal!  Anyway…I made the focal point even smaller and added a layer of Smoky Slate beneath.  Super simple and simply classy.
  • Color Combination.  How simple and beautiful is this combination of black, white and gray?  The soft of Smoky Slate looks almost silver against the black and white, but there’s not a hint of shine in the paper or ink.  If you like this combination, too, please save this as a reminder:Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration: Basic Black, Smoky Slate, Whisper White

Stamp Sets:  All About Sugar, Regarding Dahlias (retired)  Papers:  Whisper White Note Card, Smoky Slate, Basic Black, Whisper White  Inks:  Tuxedo Black Memento, Smoky Slate  Accessories:  Stampin’ Dimensionals

Come back tomorrow!  As part of this month’s Pals Blog Hop, I’ll be sharing another project I’ve made with this fun stamp set – you don’t want to miss it.

  15. Watermelon Wonder. It just screams summer!

  16. Mint Macaron has really caught my eye! I love the soft pastel that it is, and I know I could use it on lots of my projects~ Thank you for your inspiration and for the chance to win such an amazing assortment of retired items!

  20. Tip Top Taupe for me! It is a great neutral color and especially good for masculine cards. Love your card and all your tips and tricks. Love your sense of humor too! Would love to take a class with you – it would be awesome!!

  21. I love mint macaron — my house is almost that color! But I know I’d use Tip Top Taupe more because it’s such a versatile, neutral color.

  25. Love the watermelon wander. It is bright and cheerful. I think I will use it a lot.
Look forward to receiving you email each day.

  26. My favorite new color is Watermelon Wonder. It’s perfect for the ribbon stamp I’ll be using for my Thank You cards for those who sponsor me when I do the Cure for Breast Cancer walk in October. Somehow it has managed to be bright yet soft……..a very difficult thing to accomplish.

Speaking of accomplish…….when I opened your blog this morning and saw your card I thought you were having a formal party and had the invitations printed on one of those wedding sites. Honestly Brian, you may want to start your own little invitation business. Your card is flawless with perfect placement of the letters over the silverware and that black border which just makes it all jump out. The card looks simple but with all those layers we can tell you put a lot into it. I love it.

Have yourself a fabulous day Brian and keep Wowing us like you always do.

  27. Of course I love all the new in colors, but I’d have to say my favorite is cucumber crush. I love that it’s bright green but not florescent 🙂

  28. Mary Ann Huntington

Boo that we can only pick one! Okay then, I’ll pick Tip Top Taupe. It is so soft and very versatile. You can just picture it going with any color.

  29. Watermelon Wonder—-I like anything “pinkish”.

  30. Dlsolum@aol.com

Watermelon wonder! It is so summer and cheery.

  31. I LOVE a good neutral and that’s just what tip top taupe is! I believe it may just become my fav, kicking Sahara Sand to the curb [OK, that’s not really going to happen but TTT is growing on me]

  32. My favorite is tip top taupe because it can be used with so many colors.

  33. I love mint macaron. I love the color and the name too! I like it because depending on the pairing of it with other colors it can seem greener or bluer. I like colors like that.

  34. Linda Schilling

Watermelon Wonder has my heart. Coral tones are usually my favorite for spring/summer and watermelon wonder is such a nice blend. Just got my order yesterday to see all the new colors in person and it is still my favorite!

  35. Tip Top Taupe cause it can be used with almost any color. it is so universal !!!

  36. Fall is my favorite season…..so my favorite new color is Delightful Dijon….It looks great with my other go to colors like cherry cobbler, Cajun craze, always artichoke, elegant eggplant, island indigo, not to forget chocolate chip!

  37. I’m really liking the Tip Top Taupe…. it such a rich color and I can see myself using it a lot!

  38. Chris R. from Iowa

First of all, your invitation card is a knock out! I love the layers and colors. The place setting looks perfect on there – totally love it! As far as the new in-colors – I guess mint macaron since it is so similar to the old sage shadow or whatever it was called. I loved that color. But, I haven’t really seen these colors up close and personal. As far as use – I probably would have to go with tip top taupe since it is a great neutral color and I love to use krafty-type colors. That’s me, the fence sitter!

  39. I love the watermelon wonder. I love the bright and cheerfulness of it!!!

  40. Chris vanKoeverden

“Watermelon Wonder”. Thanks Brian. Love your posts!

  41. I like Delightful Dijon since I like bold flower colors. I love bright and beautiful! Thank you.

  42. My new favorite is Mint Macaron. I was heartbroken to be losing my beloved Pistachio Pudding, and the new Mint is a wonderful replacement. So many new possibilities with all of the new colors!

  43. I love the crushed cucumber. Bright but not too bright. Should fit in for lots of projects

  44. Ok just one…. got to be Tip Top Taupe. Neutral yes but over the top flexible. I love that it will go with anything and screams order me, order me!

  45. Mint macaron is my new favorite. I love the subtleness of it as it can be used with many other colors.

  46. This is a hard question to answer because I love them all!!! I just love color! I guess if forced to choose a favorite I would have to say Tip Top Taupe. It is a great neutral and perfectly fills a hole in the Neutrals Collection! It looks like it will go with everything and can be either masculine or feminine depending on which color it is paired with. 😀 So excited to get my hands on the new colors!
Thanks for the chance to win some old favorites! Gonna miss those colors!

  47. What an awesome give away Brian. I like Mint Macaron. I’m with Lynda S. about missing Pistachio Pudding.

  48. Kathleen Baratta

I love thr Tip Top Taupe. It is so versital. Pairing it with Whisper White makes for a very elegant look. Endless possibilities.

  49. Linda Willuamson

My fav is Minr Macaron. I love the soft illusion it gives. Perfect for Sympathy or Baby card when you want that special softness affect.

  50. I love Tip Top Taupe. It’s the perfect neutral – not too warm, not too cold – and can be paired with almost any accent color. It also looks stunning with white craft ink or white embossing powder and makes for some very elegant cards. I can’t wait to try some white and vellum butterflies on top of TTT with just a touch of sparkle. I’ve got a list of cards to CASE the second my new paper and ink arrives!
