Before I share this week’s project for this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge, I want to give a great big “thank you!” to the design team for selecting my card for last week’s challenge as a “CTS Favorite.” I love playing along with these online challenges – they offer such wonderful inspiration – and it’s always nice to be recognized. If you missed my “Why, Thank You” card with Pick a Pattern Designer Series Paper you can click here to see it. Thanks, team, for this recognition.
This week’s sketch is another sweet-and-simple layout that inspired me to reach for two stamp sets that have been around for a while – Birthday Blossoms and Watercolor Words. Such a fun layout! Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for the challenge with Leigh Penner’s sweet sketch that inspired my card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Watercolor Words. I’ve owned the Watercolor Words stamp set for quite some time. I adore the large sentiments in the set that look like you’ve hand-written a greeting with a watercolor brush. While I’ve reached for this set multiple times, I’ve never inked it up. Crazy, right?! I love how this “just for you” nestled right in the opening of flowers. This big, bold sentiment can be used for almost any occasion – the sentiment and personal inscription on the inside will further detail what the person has done to receive such a beautiful card. 🙂 Here’s a look at this set:
- Lining Up These Flowers. I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig to line up these clusters of flowers around the “just for you” sentiment. When people say that they don’t like to use their Stamp-a-ma-jig, I think it’s because they don’t use it. I love mine! I moved that little clear sheet around and around to find the positions I needed for my flowers. I started with the cluster directly under the sentiment and worked my way around from there – it doesn’t much matter where the flowers are positioned when they run off the page. 🙂 Here’s a video I made several years ago (it’s one of my very first videos) to showcase this awesome tool:
- Sophisticated, yet Playful. Berry Burst is such a versatile pink. It can be sophisticated and grown-up or playful and child-like. It all depends on what colors you pair with it. I paired Berry Burst with Night of Navy and a touch of Daffodil Delight inside each flower. Such a sweet combination! If you like this combination, too, please save this:

Stamp Sets: Birthday Blossoms, Watercolor Words Papers: Night of Navy, Berry Burst, Whisper White Inks: Berry Burst, Night of Navy, Stampin’ Write Marker (Daffodil Delight) Accessories: Stamp-a-ma-jig, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the CAS(E) This Sketch site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!

Good Morning Brian,
Great colors on this card. Watercolor Words is on of my “go to” sets. I love everything about it . . . . the size, the font and that it is photopolymer. I was wondering if you have/use a Misti?
Happy Tuesday.
🙂
Hey Nancy, I do have a MISTI (and I love it), but I find the Stamp-a-ma-jig so easy to use for quick projects. I use the MISTI when I’m making more than one of something, though.
I love the color pairing on this card (is 3 colors still pairing?)
Also, I been meaning to say how much I like the way you display your colors now- (the shiny button that looks like a pool of nail polish). It makes the colors more alluring somehow.
I really like this stamp set ! There is a card on page 135 of the catty using this set and it is simple ,but pretty . Enjoyed this video and I like the idea of using window sheet instead of vellum for your SAVE
Trying to remember if you did a video on inking up the small un inked cubes ???? So glad they are not going away ! They have the felt top rather than foam so inking is different .
As always – your layering and color combination is absolutely stunning! By having the white space the focus is accentuated on the message. You ARE amazingly talented!
The layers, the colors, it’s all just perfect. And those flowers are just right for this layout. Thanks!
So sweet!
Wonderful card and video! You are the KING of the SAMJ!
I love your card today, Brian, with the pretty flowers and great sentiment. The new Berry Burst is my favorite at least this week!! lol
I love this card Brian, the Berry Burst and Night of Navy really work well together. Super project
Great color combo, love the video…I love using the eyeball method, love that you bring morning laughter.
Very pretty take on the sketch!
