A Cup of Coffee with a Friend

About a week ago, I shared one of the projects I made with my local club members in June (you can see that post here).  I also shared their smiling faces with their finished projects (you can see those pictures here).  We had lots fun with some of the new products in Stampin’ Up!’s 2017 Annual Catalog.

Today I’m sharing another of the cards we made.  This card features the Coffee Cafe Bundle and the super-fun Embossing Paste.  Here’s my card:

Coffee Cafe, Coffee Cups Framelits Dies, Embossing Paste, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Embossing Paste.  While the Coffee Cafe cup is a super-fun element on this card, the textured background (created with three new Stampin’ Up!’s new products: Embossing Paste, Pattern Party Decorative Masks and Palette Knives) is the star of the show!  My club members were hesitant (as was I, at first) to work with the paste but quickly realized how easy it was to use.  As you can guess, I’m ALWAYS the consummate professional (not cutting up, I assure you):  Embossing Paste, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingHere’s a wonderful video from Stampin’ Up! for those of you who weren’t able to be at Melanie’s for club:

  • Quick Tip.  There are two things I want you to know about the Embossing Paste that this video doesn’t cover.  You’ll thank me for both (I accept thanks via a handwritten note or cash or purchases).  First, the tub contains 4 fl oz of embossing paste – that’s about half of the tub.  If you open it and think you’ve been shorted some paste, please sit back, breathe and remember what I just said.  Second, when you remove the twist lid and then the foil protective cover, don’t stick your finger right through the foil (this tub had been on its side before I opened it with my thumb):Quick Tip: Don't stick your finger right into the paste to remove the protective covering
  • Color Combination.  While the Coffee Cafe Designer Series Paper features Garden Green, which closely resembles the colors you’d find at Starbucks, I changed up the green a bit by using Tranquil Tide.  I was so happy with this change. The color still gives a nod to our favorite coffee shop but adds a little brightness to the combination.  If you like this combination of colors, too, please save this:Stampin' Up! 1. Oh, the Tranquil Tide is the perfect colour choice for this card, Brian! And I love your paste-covered thumb, LOL! I love using spackles and pastes and have had a lot of experience with them, but I’ve never shoved my thumb in it…but, you can say that jar was too small to get anything else in it to remove the foil. Hugs!

This card is perfect!!! Love the embossing for the brick wall!!! And the Tranquil Tide for the background.

  3. Caroline and I adore the textured brick background (as well as the photo of your thumb)!

  4. Brian, I love, love the brick look you achieved with this paste, I’ve used it before and I always enjoy playing with it.
You look all concentrating and everything in that picture applying the paste to the stencil.
    Beautiful job, my dear.

  5. I am hesitant to use the paste BUT the video & your tips are terrific! Thanks for sharing! ?

Too funny about the thumb in the paste. Ok you convinced me to try this soon. I really like your card and the brick wall is great. I am wondering if I could make an igloo with to go with the little Eskimo from cookie cutter Christmas.
