While at the St. Louis event I attended last month, I was introduced to an over-the-top fun fold that I’d never seen before. After researching it a bit, I found that it was a big hit online several years ago – lots of demonstrators shared it. Where was I for all that fun? Still it’s new and exciting to me, so I hope it’s new and exciting to you. I couldn’t wait to give this fun fold a spin – and to share it with my local stamp club. Here’s my card, which make a perfect Father’s Day card:
The card opens by pulling the two triangles apart from one another at the top and bottom point of the triangle:
And here it is, opened up:
How cool is that?! I’m as excited about this fun fold now as I was when I was introduced to it. With this size of card (I’m sharing the measurements below), it can fit in a Medium envelope (if you let it sit caddywampus in the envelope).
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Tranquil Textures. The triangles on the card front (which are formed by cutting a rectangle from corner to corner – how’s that for geometry?!) are cut from the Tranquil Textures Designer Series Paper. While this paper is designed to coordinate with the ocean-themed suite, the colors (Tranquil Tide, Mint Macaron, Soft Sea Foam and a touch of Fresh Fig) are perfect for a Father’s Day card. The blues and greens in this paper lend well to a masculine project, but you certainly aren’t limited to that. Here’s a look at this gorgeous paper:
- Building the Sentiment. The sentiment on the front of the card – “Let’s celebrate” is from the new Detailed with Love stamp set – I love the beautiful, scrolly sentiments in this set. I inked up the entire sentiment (with the eight circles beneath it) and taped over the circles before stamping onto Whisper White. That gave me just what I wanted without a lot of work. Here’s a look at this wonderful set:
During Sale-a-Bration, we were able to earn the Celebrate You Thinlits Dies. Did you get them? If not, they are now available for purchase as item #146840 in the 2018 Annual Catalog. The “you” is a perfect completion of “Let’s celebrate,” don’t you think? Here’s a look at the Celebrate you Thinlits Dies:
- Fold Instructions. Here’s a quick summary of how to create this fun fold for yourself. As long as your diagonally-scored lines are going in the same direction, you are golden. You’ll have to play around with the folds (bending different ways) to get the card to fold the right way. It will feel wrong, but you will get it. I promise.
Here are some fun pictures of some of my club members making this card:
How fun are they?! We had a really good time with this fun card.

I have never tried that gold but you have made it look easy! This week my classes make a card using the same colors/papers!
What fun! We really had fun making this card, Dianne! I hope you’ll give it a try. <3
Love your card with the fun fold, which really gives interest to the recipient. Your diagram makes it look easy and quick. I’ll have to try it. I’ll be sure to my score lines are going the same way. Thanks for the tip. That DSP has some very interesting designs. Have a great day!
Thanks, HJ! I don’t often play with different folds and designs, but this was a joy to play with. It’s fun to see it all come together. <3
Handsome and distinctive in this uber cool design and pretty paper!
๐ Thanks, Mary! <3
caddywampus – what a brilliant word!! That’s impressed me more than the fancy fold ๐
Ha! It’s a great word, isn’t it? ๐ This whole project is a bit caddywampus. <3
Cool fold and love the paper.
Thanks, Windy! <3 We had fun with it.
I’ve seen this fold on the internet but the instructions always seemed so complicated! I never even thought about trying it because of that very fact but you, genius that you are, put it together in 3 simple steps. Now I just HAVE TO try it. Thanks Brian – your card is fabulous!
You should TOTALLY try it, Grace! What I love about it – it feels like you are doing it all wrong until you realize that you’ve got it right. ๐ Please let me know how it turns out.
Look at you…..off roadinโ! Cool fold!
Right? It’s quite different for me, but I had fun with it. ๐
Great card Brian Iโll definitely give it a try.
I hope you love it as much as I do. Let me know how it goes. <3
Brian I have seen it before but didnโt give it a try. I like your instructions so I think I will give it a go. Love how you used the fancy script with the bold font.
Thanks, Katrina! I hope you do give it a try – please let me know how it goes.
I agree with others that you have simplified this cute Fun Fold card. I have seen it on various blogs and it is indeed CADDYWOMPUS….(good southern word ) but it might be fun to make a couple since it is different . I think your next Fun Fold should be the Never Ending Card !
Thanks, Sonny! <3 I'm thinking the never ending card is not in my wheelhouse. I've seen it and don't think you'll see that here any time soon. ๐ <#
I donโt remember ever seeing this. I love it! Your color choice blew me away! Thank you for sharing!
Yay! I’m so glad to introduce you to it! I’m so happy to share! <3
Always fun to try something new…thanks for sharing Brian!
๐ Thanks, Dawn! <3
YAY! Your visit here continues to haunt -I MEAN – enhance your creativity! LOL. Iโm giving it a try at my monthly card class this Friday. Thanks for your inspiration and to the demonstrator that reintroduced it to us, Dina Lanzendorf.
I hope you’ll send me a picture of the card you are making with your club, Sally! <3 Such a fun project! <3
