Do What Makes Your Soul Happy

The starting point for today’s card is the diamond patterned page from Woven Threads Designer Series Paper. I wanted to showcase that panel loud-and-proud on a card. I thought I’d would only feature Seaside Spray, Rococo Rose and Whisper White, but something felt flat about it. I decided to add a touch of Pear Pizzazz to bring this card to life, which is odd because Pear Pizzazz is a relatively flat, subtle color. Still, it gave me just what I wanted. Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Tasteful Textures. As I created this card, I didn’t know what sentiment I would feature on the front. I felt “in the zone” and “happy” as I made this simple card, so I jumped at the chance to us “Take time to do what make your soul happy” when I came across it in the Tasteful Textures stamp set. Here’s a look at that stamp set:Tasteful Textures Bundle, Stampin' Up! 151081I don’t always set out to make a “thank you” card or a “birthday card.” Sometimes its just a card until I find the perfect sentiment to use. In this case, the sentiment came second, inspired by the process of making the card.
  • Peek-a-boo with Christmas Layers Dies. You might not have known that the leafy greens sticking out from behind the sentiment are actually mistletoe (or maybe you are botany-smart and knew it already, smarty pants!). Either way, I added these green leaves from the Christmas Layers Dies, a set of dies that work wonderfully with the Itty Bitty Christmas stamp set in Stampin’ Up!’s 2019 Holiday Catalog. Here’s a look:Itty Bitty Christmas Bundle, Stampin' Up! 153019I started with one cutout of the leaves that extends from top-to-bottom under the sentiment. I cropped the leaves one more time, snipped it in half and layered it behind for a fuller look. Timeless Textures, Woven Threads Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Color Combination. Rococo Rose and Seaside Spray are gorgeous together. Both of these 2019-2021 In Colors are soft and muted (like there’s an old Holiday filter over the color to make it a little hazy). These colors were pulled directly from the In Colors lineup and from the Woven Threads Designer Series Paper:Woven Threads Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up! 149497 I added Pear Pizzazz when I needed a little pop on the card. Not only does this sentiment make a beautiful card, but it’s a pretty wonderful motto to live life by, don’t you think?

World Card Making Day/Brian’s Fall Stamp-Along

If you are a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator who is attending OnStage in Atlanta, Georgia, I’d love to invite you to join me for a fun day of fun stamping inspiration, games, swaps and giveaways.

I haven’t yet opened registration for this year’s event (to be held on November 15 at the Atlanta Marriott Gateway), but that doesn’t mean you don’t want to get on the list to find out more when I know more. Stampin’ Up! moved this year’s event to a different location with few options for hosting my event. As such, I am only able to accommodate a smaller crowd that before. I am still working through several ideas for how I can include more people without taking away from the experience for those there.

Placing an order today? Of course you are! If you are placing an order for $150 or more, I want you to enjoy all of the Host Rewards you have earned.  If your order is less than $150, I’d love for you please add this Host Code – XCXRY327 when prompted. Thank you!

    • Thank you so much, Dawn! While not one item is always the “star” of a card, I most often feature the sentiment and support it with DSP. 🙂 Glad you like it. ♥

  5. I love the softness of this color combination and the phrase is one I’d like to send to most of my friends who work entirely too hard! This color combination will also be perfect for Easter cards – at least that’s what jumped into my mind. I just love this one Brian.
