Lucky Elephant for GDP079

All of my projects this week have been leading up to today’s fun, simple card.  Here’s why:

  • On Monday I shared my Design Team Member project for this week’s Amusement Park theme at the Global Design Project.  What fun!  My project featured carousel horses from the Cupcakes & Carousels Designer Series Paper Stack.  You can see that card here.
  • On Tuesday I shared a fun “you’re cool” card that paired Melon Mambo and Basic Black and featured Urban Underground Specialty Designer Series Paper.  You can see that card here.
  • On Thursday I played around around with the Urban Underground Specialty Designer Series Paper to make a masculine card for the Be Inspired Blog Hop.  You can see that card here.
  • Yesterday, I played along with Freshly Made Sketches’ challenge and made a sweet, sunshiny bunny card with the sketch.  You can see that card here.

Today’s project combines the theme from Monday with the papers from Tuesday & Thursday and the sketch from Friday to make a sweet good luck card with Stampin’ Up!’s Lucky Elephant stamp set.  Here’s my card:

  • Lucky Elephant.  Amusement Parks might not always have live animals, but they can if you extend the theme to carnivals, fairs and circuses.  I would like to please extend the theme just a bit to make sure my elephant fits in.  He’s just so adorable.  While the “good luck” sentiment seems to fit well with the image, you could pair him (or her) with almost any sentiment to fit with almost any occasion.   Here’s a peek at this two-stamp set:

  • A Pop of Color with the Elephant.  It doesn’t make sense for the beautiful, tassled cloth over the elephant’s back to be as gray as the elephant.  Since the entire image is solid, it’s difficult to get coverage from two colors.  SO…I stamped the image with Archival Basic Gray and stamped it down.  I cleaned the stamp and stamped it with Melon Mambo.  The cloth was easy enough to snip (cutting right through the white space borders) and layer on top of the elephant.  Not a difficult snipping exercise.  🙂Lucky Elephant, Urban Underground Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP079
  • A Change of Plans.  I originally wanted to put a little flower in the elephant’s trunk.  With flowers I could add elegance to the lucky elephant.  Perspective made that difficult.  With this small-scale image of an elephant, the flowers I put in his mouth would have to be teeny tiny – almost not visible.  I played with different flowers in my collection, and none of them fit the style or perspective so I had to crop a heart.  That works for me.
