Brian’s Week in Review: January 25, 2026

Brian's Week in ReviewWelcome to my Week in Review! Each Sunday, I like to share a quick recap for those who don’t follow along every day—and a little extra behind-the-scenes for those who do. You don’t want to miss these extras! ♥

Ooops! Please don’t miss this…

I launched my new Gears & Textures Online Class yesterday, and – ooops! – the links weren’t working for the first several hours the post was live. The links have been updated now – and I’d love for you to sign up if you missed it. ♥

Breakfast with Maria

I enjoyed a breakfast meet-up with Maria Friedman this past week. Maria is a former coworker of mine (she retired at the same time I did). Maria is an avid card maker and now a member of my InKing Royalty Team. We chatted about what we’ve been doing to stay busy since retirement (mostly related to making cards). She brought a bag of cards she recently made using a single sketch she loved. I’m SO GLAD she shared them with me and gave me permission to share them with you.

Here’s Maria with three of the cards she brought to share:

Her cards are a great example of a great sketch.

Back to My Week in Review

So, that’s what I’ve been up to this past week. Let’s get back to a look at the projects I shared with you this week …

Monday

Monday was a Federal Holiday to honor Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday. In celebration of his passionate works and the work we need to continue to make this world a better place, I made this card:

Tuesday

Last week I shared a boatload of cards that feature squares. I wrapped up my square-themed projects this past week with one more card featuring the Square Snippets Designer Series Paper. This time, though, there’s not a square in sight. Here’s the card I shared with you on Tuesday that’s cut from the Square Snippets paper (but not along the lines of the patterns):

Wednesday

A simple handmade tag became a meaningful thank-you using the Lovely & Beautiful and Beautifully Celebrated Bundles. On Wednesday, I shared the tags I made for the Super-Awesome Fun Time Card Kit that were mailed out last week.

Here’s a look at one of the tags:

Changing just the flower color made this project easy to repeat while still keeping every tag unique. This is only one of the tags – I made them in six different colors and shared a closer look at each in Wednesday’s post.

Thursday

The tag I shared on Wednesday accompanied the Super-Awesome Fun Time Card Class Kits that were mailed out the week before. On Thursday I launched the online version of the class and gave you a closer look at the products that were included.

Friday

More tags…on Friday I shared a look at the tags I made to accompany the Product Shares that were mailed out at the same time as the Super-Awesome Fun Time Card Kits. My tags feature images from the Addressed to You stamp set:

  1. I love every one of Maria’s cards she shared with you, Brian. Thank you and her for sharing them with us!

  2. Can you please post directions for Maria’s cards? I also love your Gears and Textures card!

    • Maria tells me she was inspired by a swap card she received but couldn’t find the original creator. Start with a rectangle that’s 4-3/4″ tall by 3-1/2″ wide. Cut the rectangle off center on the tall side and then reverse the side to affix to the card base. The technique works best with papers that don’t have a directional pattern since the pattern is, ultimately, flipped. I hope that helps!

  6. Thanks for sharing Maria’s pretty cards. What a nice breakfast meet up. I will be joining your fun Gears & Textures class. Can’t wait to see what creative cards you will have for us. It is 15 degrees here in Delaware now with several inches of snow and the good part is we have power. A great day for cardmaking! Enjoy your day!

    • Hey Hilda! I’m so happy you will join me for the call – it’s going to be great fun. Thanks! It’s been raining all day today with temperatures dropping below freezing tonight. Tonight and tomorrow will be rough. Ugh. Hope your day is great! ♥

  7. Great cards Maria! Thank you Brian for sharing! So glad you were able to spend time together and no doubt talking cards!

  8. Hi Brian
Maria’s cards are really great. Love the design! I’ll try to follow your instructions to make one! You sure had a busy week! I especially love your Gears card!
Stay safe with the ice 🧊 that’s potentially coming your way! Here in Wisconsin it’s very cold but that’s easier to deal with than sleet and freezing rain into ice!

    • Hey Dawn! We made it through the cold with lots of ice, but the roads stayed pretty clear. Thank you so much for your comments. I always appreciate hearing from you. ❤️
