Happy Heart Day – Inspired by a Versatile Sketch

Last week I hosted a fun Stamp & Share call with my InKing Royalty Team members. The plan was simple – chat a bit, create together, and share a project with the group. And happily, it all went exactly as planned.

I started the call with a sketch I had drawn based on a card I shared last week. While we hung out and crafted, participants made their very own cards using this layout:

I shared five projects I had already made with this sketch to show just how versatile a great layout can be. But the real fun came when my team members finished their cards and shared them with the group. So much creativity and such a good time!

While all of the elements can be changed, I used 1″ x 5″ strips as the starting point for the background panel. The label layered on top varies from project to project, which really changes the look of the card.

Over the next few days, I’ll be sharing my projects made with this layout. Each one is based on the same sketch, but there’s something brand new about every card.

Happy Day

The first card I made with this layout was a sweet Valentine’s Day card with the Love Notes Designer Series Paper (you can see it here).

For the Stamp & Share call, I created another Valentine using the very same layout:

The Panels

The three panels are cropped from the Made with Love Designer Series Paper – what an incredible collection of patterns and colors! I could have used any pattern from the pack, but I was especially drawn to the small hearts and the mix of pinks on this particular page.

Here’s a closer look at the colors and patterns included in the Made with Love Designer Series Paper:

The Sentiment

The sentiment, punched from the Unforgettable Times Mix & Match Specialty Ephemera Pack, is right at home layered on two pieces cut with the Nested Essentials Dies. It adds just the right focal point without overwhelming the design.

Here’s a closer look at the sentiment on my card:

Accents

To finish the card, I added a trio of Holographic Resin Dots. They’re the perfect embellishment – adding shine and texture without drawing attention away from the other elements. Such a great finishing touch!

Last Thoughts

This layout is a keeper. Starting with a few simple strips makes it easy to let your papers shine, and changing the label or sentiment opens up endless possibilities. It’s also a fantastic design for crafting with friends or during a Stamp & Share call – simple enough to follow, but flexible enough for everyone’s creativity to shine.

I look forward to sharing the other projects I made with this layout, too!
